SGL Co-packing Limited, the Nelson, Lancashire-based contract packer and contract manufacturer, reports that it has invested £300,000 in new packaging equipment so far this year in response to customer demand – extending its ability to provide flexible, high-speed packing solutions. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Keswick Enterprises Group – the UK-based supply chain services specialist.

The investment includes a new Novus 350 continuous motion vertical form fill and seal packing machine. This robust, reliable and flexible unit may be adapted to create various pack styles – including quad pack, Doy and block bottom, as well as the standard pillow pack.

Andrew Palmer, Chairman of SGL Co-packing, commented: "We are looking to build on our success as a leading UK co-packer by investing further in systems and equipment to support the development of customers' products. The new Novus machine meets our requirements for high quality, flexibility and cost-effective operation, and has already generated considerable interest from existing and prospective customers."

It's quality grade 'A' again for SGL Co-packing!

SGL Co-packing Limited, the Nelson, Lancashire-based contract packer and contract manufacturer, has been awarded grade 'A' in the British Retail Consortium's (BRC) Global Standard in Food Safety (version 6) for 2015. SGL Co-packing is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Keswick Enterprises Group – the UK-based supply chain services specialist.

The Standard specifies the safety, quality and operational criteria required from food manufacturers, and SGL Co-packing has achieved grade 'A' consistently in both version 5 and version 6 since 2010. Version 6 places greater emphasis on good manufacturing practice and auditing excellence over earlier versions.

Margaret Bell, General Manager of SGL Co-packing, commented: "Achieving consistent success in meeting BRC Global Standards is a key part of measuring and validating our quality performance. It supports our numerous other quality awards, as well as feedback from blue-chip customers.

"We welcome the introduction of version 7 of the Standard in 2016, and are already working towards meeting its new challenges."

Leading co-packer launches new website

Following its rebranding last year as SGL Co-packing Limited, the leading UK-based co-packer formerly known as Strategy Group Limited has launched a new website on a new domain to promote its contract packing/contract manufacturing services.

The site can be found at www.SGLco-packing.co.uk.

SGL Co-packing offers high quality, flexible and cost-effective contract packing and contract manufacturing services, and specialises in the confectionery, cereals, other dry food, cosmetics/personal care, and pet care sectors. The business is based in Nelson, Lancashire, UK, and was formed in 1986.

The new website homepage incorporates a short slideshow outlining the major features of SGL Co-packing's services. The site is designed to be viewed easily on a variety of platforms – from PCs to iPads and smartphones.

As well as introducing the company's new-style branding, the site strengthens visual links with SGL Co-packing's parent company, the UK-based supply chain specialist The Keswick Enterprises Group. Legacy domains – including copackinguk.com and co-packing-uk.com – are being automatically re-directed to the master web address.

Divisional Chairman, Andrew Palmer, commented: "SGL Co-packing will be 30 years old next year, and this new website reflects the huge changes that have taken place in the business over the past three decades. SGL Co-packing targets growth and potential wider European development with senior management appointments (and a new look!)

Contract packing specialist SGL Co-packing Limited (formerly Strategy Group Limited) has made two new senior management appointments and has taken a strategic decision to focus – along with its parent company The Keswick Enterprises Group Limited – on widening and extending its current UK co-packing and co-manufacturing activities.

The business is seeking to translate its established skills, reputation and customer base into the wider European market, and particularly to achieve synergies in Central and Eastern Europe. At the same time, it has introduced a new brand and visual identity (see logo above).

Andrew Palmer has joined parent company Keswick Enterprises as Chairman of SGL Co-packing. Andrew has led the leading logistics services provider Suttons Group since 2005, and has extensive domestic and international business experience – especially in managing change and expansion. David Hogg becomes Head of the subsidiary company's Business Support function. The pair will support the existing divisional management team led by Margaret Bell, divisional General Manager.

Currently a Non-Executive Director of Thomas Cradley Holdings Ltd – the holding company for all subsidiaries of the £155 million Suttons logistics group – Andrew was previously Group Managing Director of Suttons from 2005 to 2013. Before that he was Managing Director of DTS Logistics from 2001 to 2005. He has also held senior management positions at Suttons International, Bibby Line Group, Transport Development Group and Procter & Gamble. Andrew is an honours graduate of the University of Liverpool, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (and winner of its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012). He is married with one son, and lives in the Chester area.

David Hogg brings a wealth of experience in the areas of food manufacture and packaging. He started his career in 1975 as a General Manager at Dalgety PLC. Following experience with William Jacksons and St Ivel, he has held senior management positions at Northern Foods, Premier Foods and Dairy Crest. Since 2009 he has worked as a food industry consultant, advising companies on strategy, structure and performance. David has a record of developing organisations to deliver enhanced performance, and is accustomed to meeting the service requirements of the major retailers. He is married with two children and lives in Chester.

John Harvey CBE, Executive Chairman of The Keswick Enterprises Group, said: "I warmly welcome Andrew and David into The Keswick Enterprises Group. Their appointments signify our strategic decision to expand our contract packing and manufacturing activities – not just in the UK, but into other parts of Europe as well. We intend to introduce contract packing into the portfolio of logistics support services provided by our Tibbett Logistics subsidiary in Romania, for example, and thereafter into our operations in Poland.
